Sull'aria

My favorite duet from my favorite opera. Sull'aria, from The Marriage of Figaro, by Mozart. The ladies are Kiri Te Kanawa and Ileana Cotrubas.

Sull'aria . . .
On the breeze . . .
Che soave zeffiretto . . .
What a gentle zephyr . . .
Zeffiretto . . .
Zephyr . . .
Questa sera spirera!
Will sigh this evening!
Questa sera spirera . . .
Will sigh this evening . . .
Sotto i pini del boschetto.
Beneath the pine grove.
Sotto i pini?
Beneath the pines?
Sotto i pini del boschetto . . .
Beneath the pine grove . . .
Ei gia il resto capira.
He will understand the rest.
Certo, certo il capira.
Certainly, he'll understand.
Ei gia il resto capira.
He will understand the rest.
Canzonetta sull'aria . . . etc.
Little tune on the breeze . . . etc.

No problem. It's a wonderful duet, lyrically and musically.

Thank you, beautiful duo; I have been looking for a while the lyric.

Thank you for the translation.
Video should be that of Fleming and Bartoli though!
I kid, it shouldn't be anything.
Now I want a copy of this performance, I remember watching it a while ago and being impressed by Cotrubas' acting. And of course it'd always be worth it for Kiri Tekanawa....

I blabber, I go; thank you again!

This exquisite duet sounds even better in some performances which are slower... This beautiful music was used in one of my favorite movies, Shawshank Redemption... There, an innocent man imprisoned (Tim Robbins) in a truly nightmarish prison turned this tune on through the prison loud-speakers.. and he and the thousands of tortured prisoners felt themselves free for the few minutes that these angelic voices streamed over the skies in the prison yard...

If you like duets, and I loved this one, try Pavarotti and James Brown, singing "It's a Man's World." on YouTube. Who would have ever guessed? It's worth your time.
